I haven’t posted in a while, and am kind of at a lose for what to post, so if you have any ideas, please post them in the comments! I decided to edit one of my old posts from my book blog I had before this, it isn’t the best writing, but the book I did the review on was amazing!
Queen Of Nothing by Holly Black
He will be destruction of the crown and the ruination of the throne.
Power is much easier to acquire than it is to hold onto. Jude learned this lesson when she released her control over the wicked king, Cardan, in exchange for immeasurable power.
Now as the exiled mortal Queen of Faerie, Jude is powerless and left reeling from Cardan’s betrayal. She bides her time determined to reclaim everything he took from her. Opportunity arrives in the form of her deceptive twin sister, Taryn, whose mortal life is in peril.
Jude must risk venturing back into the treacherous Faerie Court, and confront her lingering feelings for Cardan, if she wishes to save her sister. But Elfhame is not as she left it. War is brewing. As Jude slips deep within enemy lines, she becomes ensnared in the conflict’s bloody politics.
And, when a dormant yet powerful curse is unleashed, panic spreads throughout the land, forcing her to choose between her ambition and her humanity…
*WARNING* this post DOES contains spoilers
I would like to start by saying, that out of the whole, Folk Of The Air series, that this one is my absolute favorite! The other ones were really good, but none of them can beat The Queen of Nothing.
If you have not read, The Cruel Prince, or The Wicked King, let me catch you up some.
Jude Duarte’s parents were murdered before her very eyes when she was seven, by her older sister -Vivienne’s- actual father, Madoc. He takes them all -Vivienne, Jude, and Jude’s twin sister, Taryn– back to Elfhame, aka Faerie land.
Ten years later, all Jude really wants is to belong there, despite her mortality. But almost all fey hate humans. Especially Prince Cardan, aka The Cruel Prince, aka The Wicked King. He and his gang of friends set out to make Jude’s life a miserable as possible.
Then comes all this stuff with Prince Dain, Cardans older brother. Jude spies form him and in exchange he puts a gease on her. A gease protects her from being bewitched by the fey. Then there’s Prince Balekin, who is pure evil, and ends up murdering the entire royal family except for Cadan, and Oke. Surprise! Oke is has royal blood! Which is the only reason Madoc helps Prince Balekin.
So, then Jude makes a deal with Cadan, and then there’s that moment when she finds out he likes her but doesn’t want to. Jude says she’ll have Cadan crown Oke, but then it backfires on Cadan. Cause she placed the crown on HIS head, not OKE’S!
And that was just book one. But, since this is supposed to be about The Queen of Nothing, I will just give you a link to The Wicked King.
So, moving on……….
Jude: She ends up going back to Elfhame, to help Taryn, she the sister that, you know, MARRIED THE GUY THAT JUDE WAS DATING! She risked her LIFE to save her sister that didn’t even treat her right. That’s just messed up.
I’m also really relived that Cadan sent her away with intention she could come back when ever she wanted to, and that he actually loved her! *Dreamy sigh* This couple definitely got their happy ever after.
Cadan: He is AMAZING. Easily my favorite character in the entire series. He never wanted to hurt Jude. NEVER. He’s always been in love with her. He also went through a lot of hard stuff as a kid. So, I can see how he became this feared and despised prince. I’m really glad in this book that he finally accepts his love for Jude. Took him some time though. XP
Taryn: She kind of sucks a sister. First, she steals Jude’s guy, marries the guy, then when she kills the guy, comes back to Jude crying for help. That’s just…….I have no more words for you Taryn.
Oke: I’m glad that Cadan doesn’t make Oke take the throne. He’s way to young, and it’s just not fair to take his childhood away. Oke is such a sweet little guy, and if he does ever end up on the throne, I’m sure he’ll make a great king.
I hope that if you haven’t read this series, that you will. I was not sure what to think of it in the beginning, but I really liked it. For me its probably and 8 out of 10!
I hope you didn’t cringe to much, I know I did. Till next time.
