Benny And Violet’s Story

Everybody needs love, a home, and familyMae Everdeen

About two weeks ago (a little more) two dogs (siblings) showed up in my moms garden, in need of love and care. And being the dog people we are, we took them in. To care for, train, and love as much as we could.

I was driving down the hill in our side-by-side when I saw a puppy pop up in the garden. “Dad! Do you see that?” I asked full of excitement and disbelief. “No, what?” He responded. I pointed to the garden in front of us, “there are puppies in the garden!”

About an hour later both of them were wiggling for pets, and covering us in kisses. The girl had come right over, but the boy had taken some time to warm up to us, but he did eventually! They were so skinny, and had tons of ticks and flees all over their bodies. It was one of the most depressing things I had ever seen.

We quickly decided to name them after the two youngest siblings from the book series The Boxcar Children. Benny and Violet, the names fit them perfectly. I think they agreed to!

The next few days were a whirlwind, taking them to the vet, trying to figure out where they came from, and giving them much needed love and care. This is the information we got in those few days: They had no chip, a lady on Facebook said she had seen a group of puppies dumped (ten total), and they were only about five months old. With that knowledge we started training and bought them toys, collars and cages.

Now, two weeks later, they have gained weight, have had baths (multiple for Benny 😆), and have had so many kisses and belly rubs I wonder they haven’t exploded! They are the sweets things, and can’t wait to find their forever homes. Talking about forever homes……

We want to keep them so bad but already having four dogs we don’t exactly have the space or money for another two sadly. Benny is to be taken into his forever home with one of my moms friends next weekend, I’m happy for him, but sad that I’m going to have to say goodbye. Then there is Violet, I’m begging my parents so hard to let me keep her, between you and me I think I’m wearing them down. 😉

They both will always have a special place in my heart even if all I got was two weeks with them, all those love nibbles, wiggles, and kiss will stay in my heart forever. I whish them the best of luck in this world, and all the other dogs who are in needed of love and a family. (Fingers stilled crossed I can keep Violet!)
